APCO Handlooms go Online
Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO), the apex society of weavers’ cooperatives in the state, has successfully launched its eCommerce website – shop.apcofabrics.com. The website and APCO’s new flag ship showroom at Paryataka Bhavan in Hyderabad was launched by Sri. Gaddam Prasad Kumar Garu, Hon’ble Minister of Handloom and Textiles, SSI, KVIC and Smt. Minnie Mathew, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Dasari Srinivasulu, IAS, Principal Secretary to Ind. & Com. (Tex), Govt. of Andhra Pradesh hosted the event along with Sri. G. Gowrishankar, ITS, Vice-chairman, Managing Director, APCO.
Sri. Gaddam Prasad Kumar Garu emphasized on the key initiatives of the state government in supporting the weavers of the state and APCO. He stressed on the need to promote the handloom products both in national and international markets and working towards providing greater socio-economic benefits to the weaver community in the state.
Smt. Minnie Mathew appreciated the efforts of APCO in marketing the products of the weavers from the state and the innovative approach of online marketing the handloom products by GoCoop. Chief Secretary also mentioned that each of the regions in the state represents the handloom weaving tradition through their specialized products and designs. She stressed on the need from APCO to direct efforts on research and development of designs of handloom products from the state.
Dr. Dasari Srinivasulu expressed the intent behind this initiative to lower overhead costs of marketing and to increase the sales through this innovative online sales channel with higher margins. He also stressed on passing the benefits of initiative to weavers of state citing reference to initiative of MahaGrapes, a grape grower’s society of Maharashtra.
APCO is offering inaugural discount of 30% on all of its products on shop.apcofabrics.com to promote the online sales. The product range includes pure silk and cotton sarees, pavadas, dress materials, bed sheets and menswear. APCO is also providing free shipping to all its customers across India and has tied up with Postal Department for delivery of its products. This strategic initiative of APCO aims at tapping the customers among growing Indian middle class with close to 30 crore people with higher purchasing power.
APCO is the state level federation of primary weaver’s cooperative societies. It is one of leading brand of handloom products in India engaged in welfare of weavers of Andhra Pradesh state since 1976. It has been engaged in marketing of handloom products of its more than 1250 member primary weaver cooperative societies with a annual turnover of more than 250 crores and 185 showrooms across India.

GoCoop is focused on providing technology based value added business services cooperatives, self-help-groups and other community based organisations working with producers and artisans. GoCoop is recognized by Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India as part of the India Innovation Program 2012.
